Throughout his Resort 2018 collection, Roland Mouret reaffirms his continued desire to introduce his customers to places and eras that inspire his work. This all starts with the look book; set on the windswept and moody Aldeburgh Beach in his home county of Suffolk, reflecting the dynamic aesthetic of the collection itself.
Influenced by Japanese design in the 80s, Roland plays with both a predominantly monochromatic colour palette and fluid yet structured outlines. A heavy satin gown is gathered at the waist, falling into a flowing drape, whilst a white silk marocain jumpsuit is loosely tailored on the torso, fastened with a contrasting black rope; an accent that appears throughout the collection. Playing with a wide variety of textures such as raffia weave, embroidered lace trims and fil coupe, Roland hints at bringing demi couture to a new generation of customers wishing to dynamically incorporate decorative yet wearable pieces into their wardrobe.
Intensity is brought to the collection through a vivid poppy red, as used in the traditional Kabuki make up, representing passion, strength and power; themes reminiscent to the collection itself. This red is executed in a tailored crepe jumpsuit, a handkerchief-hemmed dress and a variety of separates. Colour is introduced further through ethereal fil coupé dresses and tops in soft pink and black iris fil coupe with sweeping layers and soft hems. The collection is lent iridescence through dresses of metallic leopard fil coupe, adding glamour in lustrous silver set against delicate lace.
Accessories in matte suede complement the offering, with a selection of sandals and Roland’s signature Classico bags in black, cerise and poppy red enhancing the femininity of the collection.
The Resort 2018 collection encapsulates the unique perspective of the collection through Roland Mouret’s eyes, altogether creating a new experience and decadence for his customer.
