The Roland Mouret Spring Summer 2019 season explores liberation and freedom of movement, playing with collage to clash and contrast. Capturing our evolution of fluidity, slender, romantic silhouettes hint at the curves of the body and challenge the aesthetic of a covered body, giving women the tools to reclaim the gaze from the observer. At a time when social, political and gender equality is being challenged, we introduce an empowering collection for the contemporary woman.
Female empowerment is explored through positive mantras and symbols created by artist Mehrnoosh of Craftwork Studio who was inspired by Yonic symbolism (from the Sanskrit yoni) and the most sensual motif of the female form. Badges featuring the slogans as well as a jewellery collection of brooches and necklace created by Mehrnoosh debuted on the SS19 runway.
The collection features button-down pencil skirts, shoulder baring dresses and high-waisted wide-leg trousers with suggestive lace-up details, that bring our values in full focus. Slits and exposed lace panels offer glimpses of the thighs in stride, whilst ultra-plunging necklines unashamedly alleviate one of the most overtly sexual parts of the female form. Statement looks, in a summery pastel palette with graphic prints and bold stripes, are complimented with sensual silk rope-tie sandals and pointed lace-up mules.
“Women across the world have found strength through the community of shared experiences. Women are the voice of our society, and this is what I want to express in the collection.” – Roland Mouret
